THE IMPACT OF CONFLICT MANAGEMENT IN THE PRODUCTIVITY OF PUBLIC ORGANIZATION IN NIGERIA
ABSTRACT
The study was conducted to find out the causes of conflict in an organization and how to resolve it. This research work believes that in every organization conflict must escalate if not handled (resolved) properly. The researcher used primary and secondary methods of data collection. The organization in question accepts the proactive approach in managing conflict. The managing strategy to conflict management in the organization is highly effective. The organization believed that forcing the conflict to a conclusion is found to be the best effective method of resolving conflict.

1.0 Introduction
1.1 Background of the Study
Nigeria telecommunication (NITEL) Plc is a Federal government owned company that provides telecommunication services in Nigeria, set up in 1985 as an amalgam of the telecommunication division of the defunct posts and telegraphs (PST) department and the Nigeria external telecommunication (NET) Limited. Nitel Plc now staff strength of about 12,000.
It operates a three-tier organizational structure corporate Headquarter, six zonal and 38 territorial administrations. The structure is decentralized to enhance decision making, currently, the six zonal administrations are Lagos with Headquarters in Lagos, North West with Headquarters in Ibadan, central zone Headquarters in each state of the federation represents a territory except Lagos which has two territories (FCT). Abuja also represents Nitel also represents Nitel territory, now fully commercialized under the privatization and commercials to the provision of reactional and international telecommunication serious.
Nitel Plc has 600,000 telephone lines of which 120,000 network with the planned expansion and modernization of the Network, the total installed capacity of telephone lines was expected to reach one million by 1997. one of the new serious provided by Nitel Plc is the cellular mobile telephone which other services provided by the company includes satellite lines, data communications and enhanced value added serious like voice-mail and paying. The company has firmly established its corporate existence by providing adequate, efficient, effective and modern telecommunication services for the nation's development.
1.2 Statement of Problems
Inappropriate selection of managers with good leadership quality may have result into conflict in many organizations.
The trend organizational conflict in all leads and has led to the rapid increase in the organization and tends to be an obstacle to the growth of out economy. Beside, the effort made by both managerial,, employment researchers and even government in form of strategies to manage conflict. e.g. Organizational structure, policies, decision like restructuring welfare provision to mention but a few conflict remains segmentation to our organizations.
The necessary for more effective and efficient conflict management strategies system from the concern that improper managed organizational conflicts can doom an organizational because of their destructive roles ranging from divergent objective and volumes between the owners managerial and employees (Richard H. Viola) to individual style and organizational are axonometric.
1.3 Aim and Objectives of the Study
The aim of the study is to examine the Impact of Conflict Management in the Productivity of Public Organization in Nigeria. In achieving this aim, the following specific objectives were laid out as follows:
- To identify the nature and characteristics of organizational conflict.
- To examine the current strategies adopted in managing organizational conflict.
- To determine the effect of organizational conflict
- To reveal the short faults and prospect of the current strategies adopted
1.4 Research Questions
The study came up with research questions so as to be able to ascertain the above stated objectives. The specific research questions for the study are stated below as follows:
- What are the impacts of conflict management on the development of Nitel Owerri?
- Are the adequate modern social amenities in Nitel Owerri?
- Has conflict management found to be effective on public organization in Nigeria?
- Has conflict management in the productivity of public organization contributed to rural-urban migration?
- How can conflict management in the productivity of public organization in Nigeria be improved?
1.5 Significance of Study
In recent, there has been series of cases of dispute strike coss of market share and good will, inability to meet target. Unhealthy relationship and competition all are emanating from individual collective grievance which turnout to be conflict.
However conflict which is a cutes slag of conflict has crumbled many organizations. Despite the high and promising prospect provide by the feasibility study after careful consideration of all other environment factors.
Beside, conflict goods for every business especially those who management fails and are incapable of handling at its early stage,, many managers had delayed in making pertinent decision that could have justified and improved their strength and success. Strength and success of an organization of other of the efficiency of its assets strength only from the individual strength of its members.
Therefore an organization may have abundant enforce with highly motivated spirit the organization of next to failure.
This research aims at finding the causes of conflict and proffers a lasting solution to management saddled with his ill event so that they can be able to exact man's effort to efficient co-ordinations of money and material resources toward productivity and profitability.
This encourage spirit de crops C team spirit which is threatened by conflict, because during conflict individual in all organization are not working in harmony which turn out to be stroking block to organization success.
Therefore, this study will direct bother redirection of courses of action with regards to management in organization and as a reference work on the appraisal of organization correct management.
1.6 Scope of the Study
The study is focused on the impact of conflict management in productivity of pubic organization. it affects on productivity and profitability enhancement. Besides recommending possible ways of managing conflict in an organization, hence actions management can take to deal directly with conflict in the organization without personal to mention but a few.
This study does not cover conflict resolution of management outside the corporation world like in a political area.
1.7 Limitation of the Study
In this study the limitation of the research is that the researcher has the limitation of finance to carry out the study. There were not enough materials to this study concrete.

Conflict Crisis:
Any action or inactive either internal or external that leads to inability of an organization to function in accordance with its laid.
Organization Structure:
The arrangement and inter-relationship of the various component parts positions in a company.
Strike:
This is a situation of industrial unrest when workers especially wages earners collectivity decide not to work to their place of work as a way of trying to enforce their demand on management.
Communication:
This is the transfer of information, ideals from one person to another. It also involves where two or more persons are interacting each other.
Development:
Is the social change in which new ideas are introduced into as social on order to produce higher per-capital income and levels of living through more modern production methods and improved social organization.
Management:
This is the art of running and controlling a business or similar organization. Is also the way in which you organize how you spend your time?
Productivity:
This is the rate at which a worker, a company or a country produce goods and the amount produced, compared with how much time, work and money is needed to produce them.
