
THE CLIMATE OF CORRUPTION BY LABO YARI AND I DO NOT COME TO YOU BY CHANCE BY ADAOBI NWAUBANI TRICIA: CORRUPTION EXAMINATION
ABSTRACT
Corruption refers to any act of practice which is deviant to the norm of a given society. It signifies a form of behaviour that departs from morality, ethics, tradition, law and civic virtue. The study was carried out to examine the Corruption in the Novels of Adaobi Nwaubani Tricia's I Do Not Come to You by Chance and Labo Yari's the Climate of Corruption. Investigation revealed that scholars have shown great deal of interest in the problems of corruption. Scholars have been equally pre-occupied with the work of literature and re-interpretation of the work by examining and re-examining of matters related to the social development of the country. Corruption has long been harmful and dangerous to the development of Nigeria systems. This study therefore, sheds light on the scourge of materialism and relevant institutions. The sociological theory, which supports investigation unto the function of systems in the society, has been deployed in this study. One of the findings of the research is that, social systems, presently, malfunctions. The researcher concludes that the only antidote to this is a total war on corruption. This study is being embarked upon because corruption is dangerous and harmful to the systemic existence of any society. It should be discouraged in the society because once it sets into any part; it automatically contaminates all the society. Based on the findings, the following recommendations are hereby suggested the government should provide sufficient health facilities in the Nigerian society, so that the commoners in the society will not experience sad tale of under-staffing, low government funding and insufficient facilities.

1.1 Introduction
Corruption refers to any act of practice which is deviant to the norm of a given society. It signifies a form of behaviour that departs from morality, ethics, tradition, law and civic virtue. Nigeria is not the only country in Africa in which the apparatus of government has become an instrument for the enrichment of members of the politically dominant group. Corruption at the level of religion is the act of using fear and ignorance to control and manipulate people for the betterment of a select group or individuals. At the level of education, corruption is any attempt to influence, illegitimately, the process of endorsing the capacity of learners for a higher academic level, acquisition of knowledge or skills with a view to obtaining undue advantages for one or more parties.
As a prelude to other parts of this study, this chapter will discuss the background upon which this study was initiated, the statement of problems that led to this study, the Aim and Objectives of the study. Others are Significance of the study, Scope of work, Research questions, Limitations of the Study and Definition of technical terms.
