CHAPTER ONE

Introduction

Notre sujet de mémoire s’intitule >. Allah n’est pas obligé est un roman qui nous parle de la guerre civile en Sierra-Leone et au Liberia dans les années 90. Les enfants, appelés enfants-soldats, jouent des rôles importants au cours de la guerre. On leur apprend toutes sortes de vices. Ils s’engagent aux activités qui ne sont pas destinés à leurs ges.

Le sort de ces enfants nous intéresse et dans ce mémoire nous allons situer ces enfants dans les familles dont ils sont issus au départ ; car, comme on le dit ;

<<L’enfant est un produit de son milieu>>.

Un enfant abandonné est capable de tout pour survivre. Nous verrons si ces propos s’accordent avec les portraits des enfants ou personnages d’Allah n’est pas obligé.

Nous divisons donc le travail en trois chapitres dans le premier chapitre nous palerons de la biographie d’Ahmadou Kourouma. Dans le deuxième nous définirons le mot clé : problèmes, ce que nous entendons par <>. Le troisième chapitre sera consacre a l’analyse des conséquences des problèmes soulignés ou dégagés au deuxième chapitre. La conclusion nous permettra de reprendre les grandes lignes de notre étude, et de montrer la contribution de notre travail a l’étude d’Allah n’est pas obligé, d’Ahmadou Kourouma.

Chapitre 1


Biographie d’ahmadou kourouma


L’homme et l’œuvre

Né dans le nord de la Cote d’Ivoire, Ahmadou Kourouma est élevé par un oncle infirmier, chasseur, musulman et féticheur. Plongé dans les traditions de son pays, Kourouma s’imprègne de ce qui sera plus tard le terreau de son inspiration: la culture Malinké. Apres de brillantes études secondaires, il part pour Bamako au Mali pour intégrer l’Ecole Technique supérieure. En 1949, il est accusé d’avoir endossé le rôle de « meneur »lors d’une manifestation estudiantine indépendantiste. Il est banni du Mali. Il se voit simultanément retirer son statut sursitaire, et contraint de se mettre au service de l’armée française, où il doit réprimer des indépendantistes de l’Afrique de l’Ouest. Pour soulager sa conscience, il part en Indochine et sert en tant que tirailleur pendant quatre ans. Ensuite il reprend ses études et s’intègre l’Ecole de construction Aéronautique et navale de Nantes. Avant d’opter finalement pour les assurances en rentrant à l’Institut des Actuaires de Lyon.

En 1960, la Cote d’Ivoire devient indépendante. C’est l’occasion pour lui, marié à une française, de retourner dans son pays natal. Le président Houphouët-Boigny,

l’accusant de comploter contre le peuple, le fait emprisonner. Il échappe à la torture en raison de son mariage, mais se voit prive du droit de travailler.

Cette période lui permet de rédiger son premier roman, « Les Soleils des indépendances ». Avec une écriture très singulière et imprégnée de l’esprit Malinké, il dénonce les problèmes qui gagnèrent la société : l’arbitraire, la sujétion de la femme, l’excision. Kourouma ne trouve pas d’éditeur pour ce livre. Il décide de partir en Algérie ou les actuaires se recrutent en grand nombre. En 1967, les lettres françaises de l’université de Montréal décernent un prix au manuscrit. En 1970, les éditions du seuil finissent par le publier (réédition en ‘point’ en 1995). De retour en Cote d’Ivoire, il met cinq ans avant de publier une pièce de thétre: « Le Diseur de Vérité », 1998. Cette pièce est qualifiée de révolutionnaire par l’ambassadeur de France, et Houphouët-Boigny exile Kourouma ‘par le haut’, en le nommant le directeur général de l’Institut International des Assurance de Yaoundé, au Cameroun.

En 1990, il publie Monné, outrages et défis qui traite une fois de plus des méfaits de la colonisation, du rôle des femmes et des conflits interculturels. Il prend sa retraite en 1994 et s’installe à Abidjan pour se consacrer pleinement à l’écriture. Il signe son troisième roman, En attendant le vote des bêtes sauvages, (le seuil, 1998), qui dénonce les maux de l’Afrique post-coloniale : tyrannie, anarchie, pauvreté, gabegie, corruption, naïveté, sous l’œil d’un anti-héros ubuesque, koyaga, lequel évolue dans un monde marqué par la magie. Ce livre rencontre le succès, reçoit le prix du livre Inter. En 2000 parait Allah n’est pas obligé, un roman qui traite des guerres tribales. C’est un enfant de 12 ans qui est le protagoniste. A travers son regard, Kourouma décrit les massacres de Sierra Leone et du Libéria.

Lorsqu’en septembre 2002, la guerre civile éclate en cote d’Ivoire, il prend position contre l’ivoirité, ‘une absurdité qui nous a mené au désordre’ et pour le retour de la paix dans son pays. Il sera accusé par les journaux partisans du président Laurent Gbagbo de Soutenir les rebelles du Nord.

Au moment de sa mort, il travaillait à la rédaction d’un nouveau livre Quand on refuse, on dit non, une suite d’Allah n’est pas obligé. Le jeune héros, enfant soldat démobilisé retourne en Cote d’Ivoire à la Daloa et vit le conflit ivoirien. Ce roman sera publié après sa mort.

En hommage à son œuvre, une maison d’édition porte son nom à Lyon. Située au jardin chtreur dans le 1erarrondissement, la maison Ahmadou KOUROUMA accueille des associations. L’inauguration a eu lieu le 20 novembre 2010.
