EFFECT OF REPLACING SOYABEAN MEAL WITH MORINGA SEED MEAL IN POULTRY PRODUCTION
ABSTRACT
Soybean meal is the most widely used as a protein source in the formulation of poultry diets. The study examines the Effect of Replacing Soyabean Meal with Moringa Seed Meal in Poultry Production. In achieving this aim, the following specific objectives were laid out to determine the effect of using moringa seed meal on the performance and poultry productivity and identify the process of replacing Soyabean Meal with Moringa Seed Meal in Poultry Production. Moringa seeds have high essential amino acid contents in sulphr amino acids but very poor in lysine and threonine which are present in lower levels. The seed’s bitter taste is generally attributed to alkaloids, saponins, cyanogenic glucosides and glucosinolates which are removed by heat treatment, suggesting that this taste would not limit the use of this material in animal diets. Data used in this work is derived primary from secondary sources. The methodology therefore, is basically documentary in nature. This involves learning new facts and principles through the study of documents and records. The documents and records include journals, textbooks, newspapers, magazines, official publications etc. By putting together logically evidence derived from documents and records. Conclusion which either established facts hitherto unknown or sound generalization can be obtained. This study will be of immense benefit to researchers who intend to know more on this study and can also be used by non-researchers to build more on their research work. This study contributes to knowledge and could serve as a guide for other study.
CHAPTER ONE
1.1 Introduction
Moringa oleifera is well known for its pharmacological actions and is used for the traditional treatment of diabetes mellitus (Babu & Chaudhuri, 2005). The oleifera species has been in existence as far back as early 2000 BC, and is one of the world’s most useful plants because of its medicinal properties (Kumar, Mishra, Ghosh& Panda, 2010). MO has its origin in Agra and Oudh, in the northwest region of India, south of the Himalayan Mountains (Mishra, Singh, Verma, Kumar, Srivastav, 2011). Moringa oleifera MO is also used as stimulants, expectorant, and antilithic. Furthermore, it also provides a local solution to malnutrition (Mishra, Singh, Verma, Kumar & Srivastav, 2011).
As a prelude to other parts of this study, this chapter will discuss the background upon which this study was initiated, the statement of problems that led to this study, the Aim and Objectives of the study. Others are Significance of the study, Scope of work, Research hypothesis and questions, Limitations of the Study and Definition of technical terms.
