CHARACTERIZATION OF SOME RUBBER GROWING SOILS
ABSTRACT
A study was carried out in the Rubber growing soils of Utagba-ogbe in Ndokwa-West Local Government Area of Delta State, Nigeria. The aim was to characterize the soil in respect of their morphological, physical and chemical properties. Six mapping units were mapped out, and 4 profile pits dug in each of them in order to characterize the soils. Soil samples were also collected from the soil profile horizons and analyzed for their particle size distribution and chemical properties.
The chemical properties evaluated were the soil pH, organic matter, total nitrogen, available phosphorus, exchangeable bases, exchange acidity and cation exchange capacity. The morphological properties were also examined and described. These include soil colour, mottle, texture, structure, consistence and horizon boundary. Results of the study showed that the soils irrespective of pedons were deep, non-mottled with varied textures. The structure ranged angular blocky, to sub− angular blocky. The consistence ranged from friable, slight plastic to very plastic in the subsoil horizons.
The boundary descriptions were clear, smooth, diffuse, and wavy boundary. The physical characteristics showed that the soils were sandy loam at the surface to sandy clay loam and clay loam in the sub-soil horizons. The soils were generally acidic 5.5 − 6.5, high in organic matter content, total nitrogen, but low to moderate in phosphorus, basic cations, CEC and base saturation. The results showed that the rubber growing soils were moderate in fertility. In order to sustain rubber production for a long time, regular fertilization and liming should be carried out to maintain rubber production in the soil.

Can the material for “Comparative Study of Micro-Organism Associated with the Spoilage of Banana” be used as a guide for Science Laboratory Technology (SLT) Project?
Yes it can be used — The comparative study of microorganisms associated with the spoilage of banana. “Banana is a general term embracing a number of species or hybrid in the genus musa, family bacteria organisms, small pieces of decayed tissue from the leading edge of the lesion was transferred, by means of sterile techniques, to the SDA contained in covered dishes and incubated at room temperature (28-370c). The fungal and bacterial growth visible within 2-7 days. Each observed fungal and bacterial growth based on their morphological and cultural microscopic examination and this microscopic examination was done using the lactophenol staining technique. Some organisms like Erwinia species has been incriminated as pathogen, saprophyte or constituent of epiphyic flora of plants. …
Can the material for “The Impact of the United States Invasion of Iraq in 2003 on the Sovereignty of Iraq” be used as a guide for Political Science Project?
Yes it can be used — Since the evolution of modern state sovereignty donates the final authority of the state over its population and territory. Based on the new conception of sovereignty the united states decided to invade Iraq on the Pretext that Iraq had some powerful connections with Alqa’ida a terrorist organization who was alleged to have attacked the world trade centre on September …
Can the material for “Parasitological Profile of Selected Fruits and Vegetables Sold in Four Selected Markets” be used as a guide for Microbiology Project?
Yes it can be used — Fruits and vegetables are important for a healthy diet and help in preventing certain diseases and cancers. The aim of the study is to determine the Parasitological Profile of Selected Fruits and Vegetables Sold in Four Selected Markets. In achieving this aim, the following specific objectives were laid out to examine the effectiveness and relevance of a new and locally-adapted technology for control of parasitological contamination of fruits and vegetables and isolate and identify the Parasites on Selected Fruits and Vegetables. Various species of parasites are capable of contaminating most edible fruits and vegetables consumed in Lokoja with chronic consequences leading to malnutrition, iron-deficiency anaemia, morbidity and sometimes, health-compromising nutritional status and affective cognitive process (especially in children). A total …

Can the material for “An Online Crime Reporting System” be used as a guide for Computer Science (CS) Project?
Yes it can be used — An ideal society is governed by laws and measurable consequences are meted out to any member of the society that is found guilty of law breaking. Customarily, members of the society are expected to report any incidence of breakdown of law and order to the appropriate law enforcement authorities. Can the material for “Plasminogen Stimulates Formation of Pathogenic Prion Clumps” be used as a guide for Economics Project?
Yes it can be used — Prion diseases are associated with the conversion of the normal prion protein, PrPC, to the infectious disease form PrPSc. Discrimination between these isoforms would significantly enhance diagnosis of these diseases, and it has recently been reported that PrPSc is specifically recognized by the serine protease zymogen plasminogen (Fischer et al. (2000) Nature 408, 479). Here we have tested the hypothesis that PrP is a regulator of the plasminogen activation system. The effect of recombinant PrP, either containing copper (holo-PrP) or devoid of it (apo-PrP), on plasminogen activation by both uPA and tPA was determined. PrP had no effect on plasminogen activation by uPA. By contrast, the activity of tPA was stimulated by up to 280-fold. This was observed only with …
